About Mitchell County, TX
Mitchell County is situated in Central West Texas near San Angelo with most of its population concentrated around Colorado City—the county seat since 1880. It was named after David Mitchell who fought for independence during Texas' fight to gain it from Mexico. Besides an excellent school system that serves more than 1,800 students throughout the county, Mitchell offers attractions like Oldest Living Post Office in Texas; Father Sarrazin Monument dedicated George Sarazzin—a Catholic priest who served nearby missions; and Circle T Arena—a large indoor arena used for rodeos and other equestrian events held throughout the year.
