Kit Carson County is located in northeast Colorado with a population of 8,397 people. It is the 12th most populous county in the state and the 22nd least populated county in the United States. The county seat is Burlington, and its largest city is Strasburg. It was established May 17, 1889 and derives its name from Kit Carson, an American explorer and frontiersman who lived during the 19th century.
